Wastage

The following information is invalid as of 2023-09-06 when the teaching mechanic was implemented and various parameters were adjusted.

Because of the Experts plugin, whenever you craft things you potentially waste materials. Crafting a single item with no prior experience will result in wasting your resources and getting no output in 75% of the times. Crafting recipes that output more than one of the same item count as multiple independent crafting events for the purposes of this plugin so each of the output items has a separate chance to be wasted during crafting (e.g. a single click to craft 6 stairs counts as 6 crafting events for the purposes of this plugin).

The following table gives you the expected wastage based on how big a batch of items you are crafting at once, assuming you have zero expertise before starting to craft that output:

Batch size (vanilla output items) Expected wastage (output items) Expected wastage (ratio)
1 0.75 75%
8 4.88 61%
16 7.86 49%
32 10.77 34%
64 12.26 19%
64×9 (row) 12.5 2.2%
64x9x3 (singlechest) 12.5 0.72%
64x9x6 (doublechest) 12.5 0.36%

The above numbers are correct when there is no time in between crafting the total number of items. In practice this is impossible, you cannot craft a doublechest of items with one click, there will always be some time between crafting, allowing your “expertise” to decay just a tiny bit. This should not measurably affect the above numbers. If you wait hours between the crafting events, then that should have a measurable effect on the above numbers.

Having a luck blessing will lower the probability of wasting an output to 80% of its value. In that case you are looking at this kind of wastage:

Batch size (vanilla output items) Expected wastage (output items) Expected wastage (ratio)
1 0.60 60%
8 3.90 49%
16 6.28 39%
32 8.62 27%
64 9.81 15%
64×9 (row) 10 1.7%
64x9x3 (singlechest) 10 0.58%
64x9x6 (doublechest) 10 0.29%
